Lord Norman Lamont, keynote speaker, working Peer and co-Chairman of the Eurosceptic Bruges Group, has been a stalwart of British politics for decades, and was made a Life Peer in 1998.

He has also been a director of, and a consultant to, many financial sector businesses and is Chairman of iO Adria, the Small Companies Dividend Trust and a director of Jupiter Second Split.  He is a consultant to Stanhope Capital and the Abraaj Group, and the Economic Research Council.

Lord Lamont heads up RAB Capital (hedge fund company), Scottish Re (a re-investment company quoted on the New York Stock Exchange), Balli plc (commodities trading house), and Rotch property.

Chairman of the East European Food Fund, he was made an Honourary Patron at the Oxford University History Society in 2007, and the following year was appointed non-executive director at the internet company Phorm.
Before politics Lord Lamont read Economics at Cambridge and went on to become a Merchant Banker at NM Rothschild and Sons.

Margaret Thatcher and John Major both employed him as a cabinet member, and he was Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1990-9993 – the last recession before the current financial crisis, and was heavily involved in the Thatcher reforms which encompassed the privatisation that turned around the UK economy. He was also a Minister in the Energy, Defence and Industry Departments.

After introducing three budgets as Chancellor, Lord Lamont inherited the policy of membership of the ERM, which invited a barrage of criticism, although today economists praise the regime of inflation targeting and the budget constraints he put in place after the UK left the ERM.

In 1998 he published a self-deprecating testimony of his time as Chancellor, called In Office. His book was described in the Independent as "Out of the top drawer of political memoirs".
